Daniel Named OVC Newcomer of the Week

Junior transfer Elijah Daniel was named as the adidas® OVC Newcomer of the Week for week four of the season Sunday, the league office announced. This is the first newcomer honor of the season for the Racers and the second overall weekly honor in as many weeks, after Landon Stratton was name Specialist of the Week last Sunday.
The defensive end from Avon, Indiana made it look easy Saturday, as he broke a near 20 year old record in just his fourth game as Racer. Daniel came up with 6.0 tackles-for-loss in Saturday's 31-29 loss to Tennessee Tech, for a total of 22 yards. The previous record of 5.5 was set by Anthony Hutch in 1996 against UT Martin.
Daniel also led Murray State in tackles in the game with nine, including five solo. In addition, he added 2.5 sacks to his haul on for a total loss of 15 yards, as well as quarterback hurry.
On Saturday, Daniel and his teammates will look to snap a three-game skid when they make the short trip to Southeast Missouri. Kick-off from Houck Stadium in Cape Girardeau is scheduled for 6 p.m.
