Friday was the first official day of full team workouts for the Murray State baseball team as the Racers prepare to begin their second season under head coach Kevin Moulder.
MSU returns 2015 Second Team All-OVC performer Tyler Lawrence. Lawrence was the only player to start in all 56 games last season for the Racers and he led MSU in most offensive categories. A season ago, Lawrence hit .302 with a team-high 12 home runs and 46 RBIs and also led the squad with 13 doubles, 62 hits, 28 extra-base hits and 27 walks. He was also able to set an OVC and program record with four home runs against Morehead State in last year's finale and collected 11 RBIs in the win over the Eagles, which is just one off the program and conference record of 12.
Tyler Anderson and Kipp Moore also return this season after joining Lawrence on all-conference squads in 2015, as they were named to the All-Freshman Team a season ago.
The Racers open the season Feb. 19 in Daytona Beach, Fla., as they travel to face Bethune-Cookman in a three-game series. Following that series, MSU will play its next 10 games at home at Johnny Reagan Field. Feb. 23 will be the home opener against Harris-Stowe.
