Recent Play Produces Big Boost In National Rankings

A pair of wins and second-place finishes has its benefits as the Murray State women's golf team has shot up the Golf Stat rankings among NCAA D-I teams.
The Racers started the week 59th in the nation according to Golf Stat, and were ranked ahead of Clemson, North Carolina State, Maryland and Penn State, while Washington State, Vanderbilt, Houston and Missouri were just in front of Murray State.
Racer coach Velvet Milkman has assembled a strong team for 2016-17 that features lots of depth.
Led by 2015 Ohio Valley Conference champion Moa Folke, the Racers have three of the top seven scoring averages in the league this fall. Folke has a 73.7 average and is third in the league, while Lucila Puente Rodriguez de Austria is fourth with an average of 73.3. Linette Holmslykke is seventh at 74.6, senior Sydney Kelley is 11th at 75.3. Anna Moore is 18th (76.4), with Jane Watts (87.8) and Raeysha Surendran (77.5) ranking in the top-30. All but Folke and Kelley are underclassmen.
"This group has worked extremely hard over the summer and once we came together at the start of the semester," Milkman said. "All of that is paying off and showing in the results we're putting up. So it's nice to see the team get recognized for their effort, but we have a long way to go and we just want to keep focused and keep playing well."
MSU plays its final fall event (Oct. 17-18) in Germantown, Tennessee at the Memphis Invitational at Ridgeway Country Club.
