Zakutney Leads Racers At Past OVC Site Greystone

The Murray State men's golf team began play with 36 holes Monday at the Austin Peay Invitational at Greystone Golf Club in Dickson, Tennessee.

The 54-hole event is a good look at a many of the teams from the Ohio Valley Conference as seven OVC teams are entered in the APSU event.

The Racers carded scores of 301-293=596 and shared fourth place with Belmont after the first day of play as both were chasing leader Missouri State (580), second place Mercer (586) and third place UT Martin (587).

Murray State's lone senior Matthew Zakutney carried the banner for the Racers in day one with scores of 73-71=144 for a spot in sixth place. Austin Knight had scores of 79-72=151 and was in 30th place, while Gabe Wheeler was in 33rd place after scores of 73-79=152. Matthew Winder was in 36th place with scores of 76-77=153, while Avery Edwards was in 41st place with scores of 79-75=154.

Lance Davis is playing the event for the Racers as an individual and had scores of 81-84=165 and was in 58th place.

The rest of the field included host Austin Peay (600), Tennessee Tech (603), New Orleans (608), Tennessee State (611) and Eastern Illinois (617).

Greystone, the course that hosted the OVC Championship from 2010-13, is playing to a par-72 and 7,045 yards.

Tuesday's final round is set for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
