The Murray State Racers continued their winning ways with a 1-0 overtime win over the Gamecocks of Jacksonville State Friday afternoon at Cutchin field in Murray, Ky.

Taylor Richerson's fourth goal of the season, only 4:09 into overtime, pushed the Racers (7-4-3 overall) to the doorstep of a second-straight Ohio Valley Conference regular season championship.

The Racers (6-0-2 OVC) also pushed their unbeaten streak (in OVC regular season games) to 19 as they host the last team to beat them Sunday at 2 p.m. The Belmont Bruins gave the Racers their last conference regular season loss at Cutchin Field on Oct. 26, 2014. MSU can take a step closer to the OVC title if they can win Sunday on senior day.

Putting pressure on JSU all afternoon, the Racers took 16 shots MSU and limited the opponent to five. The Racers also had 10 corner kicks.

That all changed in a blink in overtime.

Richerson's game winner was her first of the season and first since last November when she won the OVC Tournament title for the Racers in a 1-0 final over Southeast Missouri State. Aaron Lankster recorded her fourth assist this season on the play.

Game Notes
In other games that have an impact on the OVC championship, Eastern Kentucky defeated Eastern Illinois 4-0 and Tennessee Tech got past SIUE 1-0. With their win over JSU, the Racers (6-0-2) have 20 total points and lead the OVC standings. EKU (6-2-0) has 18 points, while Tennessee Tech (5-1-2) has 17 points and SIUE has 16. With two games remaining, the Sunday clash between Belmont and the Racers is huge.

Racers now lead the Gamecocks 10-3-1 in the all-time series and has won the last five.

Alex Stiegerwald recorded her fifth shutout of the season today.

The numbers in the Coach Jeremy Groves era are certainly impressive. Since Groves arrived in 2014 as a rookie head coach, the Racers are 34-18-3 overall and 23-3-2 in OVC play. Additionally in OVC play, the Racers are 15-1 at home in OVC play with the only loss coming to Belmont nearly two years ago.
