Knight Steady & Straight At Skyhawk Classic

The Murray State men's golf team began play Monday with 36 holes of competition at the Skyhawk Classic, hosted by UT Martin at Paris Landing State Park Golf Course in Buchanan, Tennessee.

Freshman Austin Knight continued his recent great play with scores pf 71-71=142 (2-under-par) for a spot in third place in the field of 69 players. Knight goes into Tuesday's final round just four shots off the lead being set by UT Martin's Hunter Richardson who had rounds of 69-69=138.

The Racers were in third place after a morning 287 (1-under-par), but fell to sixth place with an afternoon 298. MSU's 585 total was two shots back of Alabama State and Austin Peay who shared fourth place at 583. Host UTM held the lead with a 568 total, ahead of second place John A. Logan (575) and Incarnate Word (578).

Other Murray State places and scores included Avery Edwards and Matthew Winder sharing 20th place. Edwards had scores of 72-75=147 and Winder posted rounds of 70-77=147. Matthew Zakutney was in 33rd place with scores of 74-76=150 and Gabe Wheeler had his first round score disqualified, but came back to post a 76 in the afternoon.

Justin Wendling leads four Racers in the event as individuals with scores of 73-77=150 and a spot in 33rd place, while Cole Manion and Lance Davis shared 40th place. Davis had scores of 77-75=152, while Manion posted scores of 76-76=152. Daniel Taylor was in 53rd place with rounds of 81-76=157.

The 11-team tournament plays the final round Tuesday with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start.
