Murray State's Vallery Korir
was named Ohio Valley Conference Co-Runner of the Week as announced by the league office in Brentwood, Tennessee.
Korir, a junior from Iten, Kenya, broke the Racers' 5K record that had stood since 1987 when she posted a time of 17:16 at the Notre Dame Joe Piane Invitational. Korir broke the school record previously set by Jackie Murzynowski at the 1987 OVC Championship of 17:23. It marks the third-fastest 5K time in the OVC this season.
Korir shares the weekly OVC award with Charlotte Imer of Eastern Kentucky.
The Racers have two events left in the cross country season. They compete at Indiana State (Oct. 15) and then tackle the OVC Championship (Oct. 29) in Nashville.
