Baseball Releases 2017 Schedule

Murray State baseball has released its 2017 schedule. The 56-game slate will feature 26 games played at Reagan Field and a neutral site game played at Brooks Stadium.
"We've put together a tremendous schedule for our 2017 season," said Head Coach Kevin Moulder.
"It is an extremely competitive slate that will challenge and prepare us for the rigors of competing in the Ohio Valley. We are opening up with a bang going down to Hammond, Louisiana, for a tournament with Southeast Louisiana, Louisiana-Lafayette and Hofstra."Â
The Racers open the season Feb. 17 against Hofstra on the campus of Southeastern Louisiana before playing the next day against Louisiana-Lafayette and closing the tournament against host-Southeastern Louisiana.
"That tournament should be a tremendous atmosphere and all three teams are extremely quality opponents. Both Southeast Louisiana and Louisiana Lafayette have played in regional finals recently and both have a good chance to be ranked heading into the season," said Moulder.
On the way home from Louisiana, the Racers will stop in Lorman, Miss., for a midweek contest with Alcorn State. MSU's home-opening series will be Feb. 24-26 as the Racers host Buffalo in a three-game series. The Racers will also host Kentucky State, Siena and Southern Illinois at home before OVC play begins.
MSU begins conference play on the road at SIU Edwardsville with a three-game series beginning March 10. The Racers' home conference opener will be against Austin Peay, which begins March 17. Jacksonville State (March 31-April 2), SEMO (4/21-23), Eastern Kentucky (May 5-7) and UT Martin (May 18-20) will be the Racers' other OVC series that will be played at home.
"Our conference bye weekend we are going to Fort Worth, Texas to play TCU who could be the preseason No. 1 team in the country and it will put our guys in another regional-type environment," said Moulder.
The series at TCU will be played April 7-9. MSU will also play a pair of SEC opponents for the second consecutive season as the Racers will travel to face Kentucky on March 15 and will also go to Missouri for a contest May 2. After hosting Memphis in 2016, this season the Racers will travel to face the Tigers May 16.
"We also were able to mix in our regional rivals as we will continue our home-and-home series with Southern Illinois, Western Kentucky and Evansville. The home game against UE will be played at Brooks Stadium this year in Paducah.
"That game will give our fans in Paducah an easy way to come out and see our team, which should make for an exciting night."
Besides the SIUE series, road OVC contests for MSU will be played this season at Eastern Illinois (March 24-26), Tennessee Tech (April 13-15), Belmont (April 28-30) and at Morehead State (May 12-14).
"The season is right around the corner and we are looking forward to getting on the field Feb. 17 to start this year up," commented Moulder.
