Racers Compete In Early Indoor Opener At Vanderbilt

The Murray State women's track & field team opened the 2016-17 indoor season with an appearance at the Vanderbilt Opener.
The Racers joined 10 other schools to compete at the VU Multipurpose Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
"I'm very happy with the way we started today," said MSU coach Jenny Swieton. "It was good to get everyone into competition and to see the progress they've made since the fall."
Here is a look at MSU's best at the Vanderbilt Opener as the Racers had several set personal records and move into the career top-10 lists at MSU.
The Racers saw Tamdra Lawrence, Taylor McCammon and Norma Abdur-Rafia place first, fourth and seventh in the 60-meter event. Lawrence was the winner with a time of 7.62 seconds. McCammon's time of 7.74 is fifth all-time and Abdur-Radia's time of 7.80 is now ninth.
McCammon was the Racers' top finisher in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.79.
In the 200-meter run, Lawrence posted a time of 24.46 and placed fourth. Her time is fifth all-time at MSU. Abdur-Radia posted a time of 24.62 and placed sixth and her time is sixth at MSU.
Middle Distance
Tia Weston posted a seventh place finish in the 800-meters at Vanderbilt. Her time of 2:16.7 is ninth all-time at Murray State, while Hilary McAdam ran a 2:20.2 and placed 10th. Emily Evans placed 14th with a PR time of 2:32.2.
Field Events
In the high jump, Murray State's Hope Tewes and Jabreuna Brimlett each earned a share of fourth place with a leap of 5-feet 1 inch.
MSU's Jewel Wagner was the Racers' best finishers with a spot in eighth place in the weight throw. Her distance was 46-feet-6 inches, which is ninth all-time at MSU.
Rebekah Priddy and Meagan Smith placed sixth and seventh in the 3000-meter run with times of 10:22.05 and 10:24.06. Priddy's time is 10th all-time at MSU. Caroline Grogan had a time of 10:39.6 and placed ninth.
The Racers' squad in the 4x400-meter relay placed sixth with a time of 3:50.4. Anna Curlin, Tamdra Lawrence,
Jocelyn Payne and Norma Abdur-Rafia made up the MSU competitors.
What's Next
The Racers come back to action in 2017 when they again compete at Vanderbilt (Jan. 13) in the Commodore Invitational.
