Lawrence Named Preseason All-OVC-MSU Picked Ninth

Junior catcher Tyler Lawrence was named to the Preseason All-OVC Baseball Team and Murray State was tabbed to finish ninth in the league in the OVC Preseason Baseball Poll released Friday by the league office.
Lawrence, who was a Second Team All-OVC selection in 2015, hit .302 with 12 home runs and 46 RBIs a season ago, to go along with 13 doubles and 36 runs scored. Lawrence also recorded a team-high .571 slugging percentage and drew 27 walks in 2015.
The Racers received a total of 59 points in the team poll, as voted on by the league's coaches and Sports Information Directors. Two-time defending regular season champion Southeast Missouri was picked as the preseason favorite in the league with a total of 199 points and received 19 first-place votes. Austin Peay tallied two first-place nods and Tennessee Tech received the other.
MSU begins the season Feb. 19 when it travels to Daytona Beach, Fla., for a three-game series with Bethune-Cookman.
