Gosser Leads Racers At FAU Event

Results

The Murray State men's golf team played the first round of the FAU Slomin Autism Invitational Friday in Lake Worth, Florida at Fountains Country Club.

Jared Gosser led the way with a 1-under-par 70 and had a spot in 19^th place as the Racers recorded a team 290 to get a share of 12^th place with Middle Tennessee. The Racers were one shot behind 11^th place Central Florida and two from ninth place Georgetown and DePaul at 288.

Other Murray State scores included Matthew Zakutney with a spot in 33^rd place after an even-par 72 and Brock Simmons with a 73 and a spot in 46^th place. Preston French was in 64^th place after a 75 and Duncan McCormick's 77 was good for a spot in 78^th place.

Racer individual Gabe Wheeler was in 23^rd position after a 1-under-par 71. He was second among the 18 solo players in the field of 108 competitors.

MSU had a fantastic day on the Fountains' par-5 holes. They led the field of 17 teams with an average of 4.33 and they played the par-5's 10-under-par. The Racers were also second in the field with 19 total birdies, trailing only UConn who had 22.

Uconn fired a 8-under par 276 in round one and had the lead over Ole Miss and Florida Gulf Coast at 281. Florida Atlantic and Bethune-Cookman shared fourth place at 282. Georgia Southern (285), Jacksonville State (286), and Hartford (287) made up the top-8.

Zach Zaback of UConn and Andrew Potter of FGSU shared the individual lead each carding a 5-under-par 66.

The North Course of the Fountains CC is playing to a par of 71 and 6,876 yards.
