Trimble Leads Racers In North Florida Event

The Murray State women's golf team completed 36 holes Monday at the UNF Collegiate at Jacksonville Golf & Country Club in Jacksonville, Florida.
Racer junior Sydney Trimble led the team on the first day with scores of 74-79=152 and a spot in 30th place. Sophie Hillier carded scores of 76-79=154 and was in 45th place. Moa Folke and Jacklyn Van Meter shared 58th place. Folke had scores of 82-75=157, while Van Meter turned in rounds of 77-80=157. Abbi Stamper carded scores of 82-80=162 and was in 76th place.
Through 36 holes, MSU's Trimble is tied for sixth place with six total birdies and she played the par-3 holes even par to rank tied for 12th in the field.
The Racers had team scores of 309-312=622 and was second among the three Ohio Valley Conference teams in the event. MSU was in 13th place and led 14th place Morehead State (623) and trailed Eastern Kentucky (605) in third place.
Texas and Houston led the field of 16 teams with a 36-hole score of 590, ahead of third place College of Charleston (597) and Campbell (600). After EKU (605), the rest of the top-10 was made up by Old Dominion (606), Chattanooga (606), Delaware (608), host North Florida (612) and Daytona (616). The bottom half of the field included: Jacksonville (617), Western Carolina (621), Murray State (622), Morehead State (623), Samford (623), Charleston Southern (629) and James Madison (635).
Laura Gomez of JMU shared the medalist lead with Texas' Sophia Schubert each at 2-under-par 142.
The field of 95 competitors tees it up Tuesday morning in Jacksonville for the final 18 holes. The Racers begin their tee times at 7:30 a.m. Central Time as they play with Morehead State and Samford.
The Jacksonville G&CC course played to a par of 72 and 6,002 yards.
