Simmons Paces MSU At Rainy Big Blue Invitational

The Murray State men's golf team had a spot in third place after one round of the Big Blue Invitational hosted by Tennessee State in Nashville.
The first day of play at the Hermitage Golf Club was scheduled for 36 holes, but high winds and rain forced the day to be cut to only 18 holes and thus reduce the event to 36 holes with the final 18 coming Tuesday morning.
Murray State's 296 place them four shots off the lead of Belmont (292) and a shot from second place TSU (295).
Brock Simmons led the Racers with a 1-under-par 71 for a spot in third place in the field of 99 players, while Jared Gosser was in seventh place after a 73. Matthew Zakutney carded a 74 and was in 16th place, with Duncan McCormick's 78 putting him in 45th place. A 79 from Preston French earned a spot in 48th place.

Freshman Gabe Wheeler had a 76 and was in 32nd place as he plays as an individual in the event. He was tied for fourth among the 19 individuals in the tournament.
Detroit and Evansville shared fourth place at 297, while West Georgia was in sixth place with a score of 300. The rest of the field included UT-Martin and
Tennessee Tech (301), SIUE (302), North Greenville (309), Green Bay (312), West Alabama (315), John A. Logan (325) and Walters State (334).
MSU's Simmons is chasing leader Ashton Van Horne of Belmont who carded a 5-under-par 67. TSU's Sam Gatlin was in second place after a 3-under-par 69. Â
The final round will begin with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday.
President's Reserve Course at Hermitage Golf Club is playing to a par-72 this week 7,157 yards.
