2016 SAAC banquet
Best Of The Best Celebrated At SAAC Banquet

Awards for the 2015-16 school year in Murray State Athletics were handed out (May 9) by the MSU Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) at the Curris Center in Murray, Ky.

With baseball, softball and track & field still to finish their seasons, the Racers' 300-plus student-athletes have produced three Ohio Valley Conference team championships (Rifle, Soccer and Volleyball), and 29 All-OVC selections which includes 10 OVC MVP or individual championship winners.

Awards were given for teams in the area of academics and community service.
The evening was also a special occurrence as the Racers celebrated 22 seniors who completed "Four Years-Two Goals". The motto recalls the goal for every MSU student-athlete as they strive to earn their degree and win an OVC championship. The 2015-16 school produced 22 seniors who accomplished the goal.
Team Academic Award
The MSU Team Academic Award was won by the Racer women's tennis team. As a whole, Racer student-athletes consistently performed with distinction in the classroom.  Their overall student-athlete GPA for the 2014-15 academic year was 3.12 and six MSU teams averaged a 3.30 or higher. In the 2015 fall semester, Murray State teams earned a 3.09 average and eight teams had a 3.30 or higher GPA.
Team Community Service Award
Murray State football won the Team Community Service Award. The football team edged out the Racer women's golf squad. However, all MSU teams are to be commended for a great year of community service activities. MSU teams participated in events such as Read Across America, All-Sport Special Olympics Day at Stewart Stadium, War Zone, Project Linus, High Attendance Day and Unity Day at Murray High and Murray-Calloway Needline canned food drive. MSU Athletics collected 5124 items with 3,442 items being collected by women's golf.
