Racers Honored With OVC Sportsmanship Award

OVC Release I All-Time OVC Sportsmanship Winners
The Murray State Women's Golf squad was honored with the 2016 Ohio Valley Conference Sportsmanship Award for women's golf as announced by the conference office and voted on by the head coaches and student-athletes of the sport.
The honor marks the third for the Racers and head coach Velvet Milkman after her program won the first OVC Sportsmanship Award in 2006 and again in 2009.
"The OVC was one of the first leagues to emphasis sportsmanship and we're glad to be part of that at Murray State," Milkman said. "The Racers have been recognized in several other sports as well and we're honored to be thought of in this way by our peers. I'm also proud to be part of OVC women's golf and the outstanding sportsmanship that is represented in our sport."
"I am extremely pleased and proud of the team and Velvet," Allen Ward, MSU Director of Athletics said. "Coach Milkman has shown outstanding leadership for many years at Murray State and I congratulate her and the team for receiving this award. It's wonderful to be recognized by our peers in the OVC."
The OVC Sportsmanship Award is given to the team that has been deemed to have best exhibited the standards of sportsmanship and ethical behavior as outlined by the OVC and NCAA. Included in the areas for evaluation are the conduct of student-athletes, coaches, staff and administrators and fans.
The team members of the Murray State women's golf program include Moa Folke, Sophie Hillier, Nadine Innes, Leah Rose Judd, Anna Moore, Abbi Stamper, Sydney Trimble, Jacklyn Van Meter, and Jane Watts.
Will Snodgrass is assistant coach for the Racers.
Since the OVC started the sportsmanship award in the 2005-06 school year, the Racers have been honored 22 times.
