WGCA Release
Three Murray State student-athletes are among the All-America Scholars named by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) as announced from their headquarters in Coral Springs, Florida.
Â
Senior Sophie Hillier, Junior Sydney Kelley (Trimble) and sophomore Moa Folke were three of 30 student-athletes from the Ohio Valley Conference that were named to the honor.
Â
Hillier, from Sandy, England, was an honors graduate from Murray State in May and was the top student in finance of the MSU College of Business. She had the honor of carrying the banner for the department during graduation day. She becomes the Racers' second four-time selection following Delaney Howson (2011-14). Hillier earned the prestigious OVC Medal of Honor three times in 2013, 2014 and 2015.
Â
Kelley, from Paducah, Ky., earned her third honor from the WGCA and Folke, out of Tranas, Sweden, earned her second. Folke won the OVC individual title in the spring, the seventh medalist in MSU history, and Kelley posted a 12th place finish.
Â
"I'm very pleased once again to see the selections to the WGCA team for Murray State," Milkman said. "Sophie, Sydney, and Moa have achieved excellence in the classroom and on the golf course and they represent what it means to be a student-athlete. They're also outstanding representatives for Murray State University."
Â
Murray State women's golf has earned 40 selections to the WGCA list since 1998 and has produced multiple selections the last five years.
Â
The 2016 WGCA All-American Scholars list includes 830 women's collegiate golfers combined from all divisions.
Â
The criteria for selection to the WGCA All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and the student-athlete must compete in 60 percent of season's tournaments as part of the starting five players.
