Racers Face Vandy & Arkansas State

The Murray State Racers play their third match of the 2016 season Thursday when they play a 5:30 p.m. game against the Vanderbilt Commodores in Nashville, Tenn., at the VU Soccer Complex.
The Racers (1-1) are coming off a 2-0 win in their home opener Friday against Chattanooga. A pair of freshmen had a big hand in the win. Emma Heise scored her first MSU goal and Karsyn Hasch had her first assist. Junior Aaron Lankster scored a goal.
Vanderbilt's had a challenging home opener (Aug. 25) against No. 1 Florida State. VU fell 3-0. The Commodoe's are 2-2 after an 8-0 win over Jackson State at home Sunday where they had five different players scored and Sasha Gray had a Hat Trick. VU was picked 10th in the SEC preseason predictions. The Racers were picked first in the Ohio Valley Conference.
Vandy is the second of three Southeastern Conference opponents the Racers will face this season. Â MSU opened with a 4-2 loss at Alabama (Aug. 21) and will play at Kentucky (Sept. 11). The Racers are 1-6-0 all-time againsts SEC opponents. In 2015, MSU defeated Mississippi State 2-1.
The Racers and Commodores have meet just once, that was a 2009 match at VU where MSU suffered a 4-0 defeat.
MSU comes back home (Sept. 4) for a contest with Arkansas State. The 2 p.m. match at Cutchin Field will be the 12th meeting between the Racers and Red Wolves. ASU played Lousiana Tech to a 1-1 draw Sunday and are 1-1 as they host Central Arkansas Thursday before making the trip to Murray.
