Racers Set Blistering Pace In Alabama

Round 1 Results
The Murray State women's golf team set a blistering pace with an eight-shot lead after one round of the Chris Banister Golf Classic at the Silver Lakes Golf Club in Glencoe, Alabama.

The Racers' opening 294 was ahead of second place UAB (302) and Samford (304). Host Jacksonville State was in fourth place at 308 and Tennessee Tech held fifth place at 311.

Moa Folke, the 2015 OVC Champion, held first place in a field of 51 players with a 1-under-par 71, ahead of teammate Lucila Puente Rodriguez de Austria who carded an even par 72. Raeysha Surendran had a spot in third place after a 73 as the Racers had three of the top four scores in round one. Linette Holmslykke was in 20th place after a 78 and Sydney Kelley was in 33rd place after an 81.

Murray State's Jane Watts is playing the event as an individual and was in 25th place after a 79.

The rest of the field included South Alabama (315), La.-Monroe (319), Alabama State (319) and Lipscomb (324).

Monday's second round begins with all players starting at the first tee. The first tee group begins at 7:30 a.m. The Racers will be paired with UAB and Samford.

Silver Lakes is playing a distance of 5,943 yards and to a par-72.

The Racers are looking for their second medalist win in the Jacksonville State hosted event. Murray State hall of famer Nikki Orazine tied for the title in 2005 but lost in a playoff after carding scores of 78-76-77=231.
