The Murray State women's golf team will carry a 16-shot lead into the final round of the Chris Banister Golf Classic at Silver Lakes Golf Club in Glencoe, Alabama.

The Racers took their opening round eight-shot lead and lengthened it Monday. MSU's scores of 294-297=591 gave them a very comfortable lead over second place UAB who had scores of 302-305=607. Tennessee Tech and Samford shared third place at 614 and South Alabama and Jacksonville State shared fifth place at 622.

MSU's 591 flirted with the event record for 36 holes of 585 set by Chattanooga in 2007.

After 36 holes, the Racers have teammates battling for the individual title as Moa Folke leads Lucila Puente Rodriguez de Austria by one shot. Folke was the leader with scores of 71-74=145 and Puente had scores of 72-74=146. Linette Holmslykke was in sixth place after rounds of 78-72=150 and Raeysha Surendran was in 18th place with scores of 73-81=154. Sydney Trimble was in 26th place with rounds of 81-77=158.

Jane Watts is in the field as an individual and was in 21st place with scores of 79-76=155.

The rest of the field included La.-Monroe (637), Alabama State (643) and Lipscomb (650).

Silver Lakes is playing a distance of 5,943 yards and to a par-72.

MSU is trying to win the Banister Classic for the second time after they were champion in 2002. The Racers are looking for their second medalist win in the Jacksonville State hosted event. Murray State hall of famer Nikki Orazine tied for the title in 2005 but lost in a playoff after carding scores of 78-76-77=231.
