The Murray State volleyball team split a pair of matches Friday afternoon at the Butler Classic in Indianapolis at historic Hinkle Fieldhouse. MSU opened the day with its first sweep of the season, winning 25-19, 25-22 and 25-23 over Wright State. The Racers closed the day with a four-set loss (21-25, 25-21, 17-25, 17-25) to Butler.
In the opening match of the day against the Raiders (2-6), MSU was led by Rachel Giustino
's 15 kills and .345 hitting percentage. Giustino also led the team with 11 digs in the win to record her third double-double of the season. Giustino, along with Courtney Radle
also led the Racers with two service aces.
Radle had one of the better matches of her young career against Wright State, recording 41 assists (13.67 assists per set) and adding four kills and four digs. Scottie Ingram
tallied 14 kills in the win while Dacia Brown
added seven and Audrey Lewis
MSU out-hit the Raiders .239 to .167 in the victory but were out-blocked 10-5. Both teams recorded six serving errors while WSU had six aces in the match.
Against the Bulldogs (7-4) Ingram and Giustino led the offense again with 14 and 13 kills, respectively while Brown chipped in with seven and Olivia Chatman
had six and hit .429. Defensively, Brown led the way at the net with three total blocks while Giustino had a match-high 19 digs and Ellie Lorenz
had 15 from her libero position. Radle recorded 42 assists in the loss.
Butler was able to out-hit the Racers in the match .255 to .143. The Bulldogs also enjoyed an 11.5 to four advantage in total blocks as well.
The Racers return to action next weekend for the Saint Louis Billiken Invitational. It will be MSU's final non-conference matches of the season.
