Â
Murray State women's golf head coach Velvet Milkman announced the signing of Payton Carter out of Henderson County High School.
Â
Carter will be a freshman with the Racers in the fall of 2018.
Â
She has a Murray State connection having played for Henderson head coach Jessica Grace, a former player for Coach Milkman and a member of the MSU Athletics Hall of Fame.
Â
"I am very excited to have Payton join our Racer Golf family," Milkman said. "She has a fundamentally sound golf swing and is a good ball striker. Her talent as well as her work ethic will provide her the ability to make an immediate impact on our program. Payton is very aware of the expectations of what it means to be a Racer both on the course and in the classroom and I look forward to watching her success over the next four years."
Â
Carter finished a stellar prep career at Henderson County last fall by winning five events including the Kentucky High School Athletics Association Region-II championship with a score of 74. The region win qualified her for the state tournament for a fifth-straight season. She was also a two-time pick to the Kentucky All-State Team.
Â
As a senior in 2017, Carter also scored wins at the Marshall County Invitational with a score of 74, Paducah Tilghman Invitational with a 73 and the Muhlenberg County Invitational with a 75. She was also a multiple champion on the Kentucky Junior PGA Tour.
Â
Carter was a six-time All-State Academic Team selection.
