The Murray State women's tennis team scored their first win of the season Friday with a 5-2 win over the Arkansas State Redwolves at RidgePointe Country Club in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

The Racers (1-2) are home Sunday for a pair of matches at the KenLake Tennis Center.

MSU coach Jorge Caetano was very pleased to see his team perform well in doubles.

"Jeanne Masson and Sara Bjork got their second straight win and they're playing great together right now. In practice we have been focusing a lot on doubles and it has been paying off."

The Racers saw the tandem of Sara Bjork and Jeanne Masson defeat the ASU pair of Victoria Pisani and Sabina Jeresic 6-1. Murray State got the win when ASU forfeited the third doubles match.

In singles play MSU's Amina Hadzic, Alina Schibol and Sara Bjork all posted wins in straight sets in the No 3, No. 4 and No. 5 slots. Additionally, ASU couldn't fill the No. 6 slot and the win was awarded to the Racers.

"Our twins (Anja and Sara Loncarevic) had to play at the number 1 and 2 positions for the first time and they competed really well. Amina Hadzic and Alina Schibol closed out their matches when their opponents were trying to fight their way back. Sara Bjork has improved from the Fall."

When the Racers compete Sunday at KenLake, they'll host Southern Illinois at 9 a.m. and then take on Central Arkansas at 5 p.m.
