Spring Has Sprung For Racer Golf In Arizona

The Murray State men's golf squad began play at the Loyola Snowman Getaway at Palm Valley Golf Course in Goodyear, Arizona on Saturday.

Gabe Wheeler led the way with a first round 4-under-par 70 and a spot in 15^th place in the field of 96 players. Avery Edwards had a 74 and was in 64^th place, while Austin Knight had a 75 and was in 70^th place. Matthew Zakutney was in 86^th place after a 77 and Matthew Winder was in 90^th place with a 79.

The Racers carded a 296 in round one and had a spot in 16^th place, just behind host Loyola-Maryland and Drake at 293. The leader was Eastern Michigan who fired a 275.

The Racers were paired with St. John's, SIU-Edwardsville and Drake.

Sunday's second round will begin at 7:45 a.m. local time with a shotgun start.

The Palm Valley Course is playing to a par of 72 this week and a distance of 7,015 yards.
