Folke & Puente Lead The Way At Kiawah Island

The Murray State women's golf team made a move Monday when they jumped from 12th place to ninth after two rounds of the Edwin Watts-Kiawah Island Classic in Kiawah Island, South Carolina.

Heading into Tuesday's final round, the Racers' scores of 302-297=599 has them in ninth place, behind Richmond and Jacksonville each with a share of seventh place at 596. Delaware was in sixth place at 594.

MSU's Lucila Puente Rodriguez de Austria (76-69=145) jumped 56 places and Moa Folke (74-71=134) jumped 24 places as each grabbed a share of 10th place in the field of 232 players. MSU's Linette Holmslykke slipped back to 17th place on rounds of 70-77=147. Anna Moore was in 165th place after scores of 82-80=162 and Sydney Kelley was in 203rd place with rounds of 86-82=168.

Jane Watts is playing the event as an individual and was in 58th place on scores of 75-77=152.

The 54-hole event is being played at the Osprey Point Course (5,964 yards) and Oak Point Course (5,941 yards). Each course plays to a par of 72.

The Racers easily made the 36-hole cut to play in Tuesday's 22-team championship pack at Osprey Point. Coastal Carolina was in first place at 584 with East Tennessee State (591), College of Charleston and Charleston Southern (592) and Southern Mississippi (593) making up the top-5.

Tabbed as the largest collegiate golf tournament in the country, the 2017 edition of the Edwin Watts-Kiawah Island Spring Classic has expanded to 43 teams in this year's field.
