The Murray State rifle team shot a 2319 in smallbore Saturday at the Button Rifle Range in Morehead, Kentucky to lead the 2017 OVC Rifle Championships after the first day of competition.
The Racers hold a healthy 21-point lead over second place Jacksonville State, which finished the day with a 2298, heading into Sunday's air rifle event. Host Morehead State followed in third at 2292, while the UT Martin mixed and UT Martin women's teams rounded out the field at 2283 and 2214, respectively.
Junior Ivan Roe
led MSU on the day with a 587, while fellow juniors Robert Broadstreet
and Ben Estes
were next for the Racers with each shooting a 578. Sophomore MacKenzie Martin
was fourth for Murray State with a 576, while classmate Barbara Schläpfer
rounded out the day for the Racers with a 572.
Murray State returns to the Button Rifle Range Sunday in search of its 12th
OVC title. The air rifle portion of the event is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. CT.
