Racers Celebrate Academic Success

The Murray State Racers celebrated recent academic success by having all of it's 139 student-athletes on the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll on the floor at the CFSB Center when the Racers hosted Eastern Kentucky (Jan. 18) in men's basketball.

MSU Athletics was part of a larger picture as the OVC had a sixth-straight year of a record number of student-athletes across the league to be so honored.

The OVC states that 1,335 student-athletes made the Commissioner's Honor Roll for the 2015-16 academic year, besting the mark of 1,275 from the 2014-15 academic year.

Recipients must have achieved at least a 3.25 grade point average and have been eligible and on the team throughout the competitive season in their chosen NCAA-sponsored sport(s) and used a season of competition.

Over the past 10 years the OVC has honored over 11,000 student-athletes with the Commissioner's Honor Roll award.

Murray State softball and rifle placed nine total on the OVC Medal of Honor List including Erica Howard, Leah Kesel, Cayla Levins, Jessica Twaddle and Mallory Young from the softball team and Ryan Limpus, Ivan Roe, Alathea Sellars and Kaitlyn Wilson from the rifle team. Other winners of the OVC Medal of Honor were Sophie Hillier (Golf), Scottie Ingram (Volleyball) Eli Lorenz (Volleyball), Heatherly Paschall (Cross County/Track & Field), Zach Shipley (Football), Mitch Stults (Football) and Hannah Stultz (Volleyball).

Jessica Twaddle was honored as a MSU's 19th women's recipient of the OVC Scholar Athlete Award.
