Racers Begin Play At Spring Citrus Challenge

The Murray State women's golf team had a spot in fourth place after the opening round of the Spring Citrus Challenge in Sorrento, Florida. The three-day event hosted by Morehead State is being played at Red Tail Golf Club.

The Racers were tops among the five teams competing from the Ohio Valley Conference.

The Racers posted a 306 in round one, just four shots from third place Akron at 302. Texas A&M Corpus Christi was in first place at 298, ahead of second place Florida Gulf Coast at 300.

MSU's Lucila Puente fired a 73 and was in sixth place, while Linette Holmslykke was in 17th place after a 76. Moa Folke's 78 earned a spot in 27th place after a 78. Jane Watts shot a 79 and was in 37th place, while Raeysha Surendran carded an 80 and was in 49th place.

Anna Moore was in third place with an even-par 72, as the best MSU score in the opening round. She's playing this week as an individual for the Racers. Sydney Kelley is also an individual this week and had a spot in 66th place after an 85.

The rest of the field included fifth place Jacksonville State (307) with Morehead State (310), Marshall (311), Western Kentucky and Northern Kentucky (315), UMKC (315), Western Illinois (320), Austin Peay (323) and Eastern Illinois (346).

Tuesday's second round begins at 10 a.m. local time with the Racers paired with Morehead State and Jacksonville State.
