Racers Begin Play At PGA National

The Murray State men's golf team began play at the FAU Slomin Autism Invite at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Freshman Austin Knight carded an even-par 72 in round one and had a share of eighth place in the field of 74 players. He had a hot start when he birdied three of his first five holes. He started at the 14th hole with a par and then posted birdies at the par-4 15th and 16th and the par-5 18th. Knight had five birdies total in the first round.
Other MSU scores included Matthew Winder with an 80 for a spot in 59th place, while Gabe Wheeler, Avery Edwards and Matthew Zakutney each carded an 82.
The Racers' round one team score of 316 was nine shots off of 12th place Hartford (307) and 11th place Stetson (305).

Central Florida was the first round leader at 289, ahead of Jacksonville State (290), Georgetown (291), Southern Mississippi (296), UConn, Florida Gulf Coast and Northern Illinois (298). Morehead State was in eighth place at 302, while host Florida Atlantic and DePaul was in ninth place each at 304.

The Squire course at PGA National is playing to a distance of 6,447 yards and to a par of 72.

The Racers are enjoying playing at one of the nation's top golf resorts this week at PGA National. Today's play was on the Squire course, which is named after the immortal Gene Sarazen, the first golfer ever to win the professional Grand Slam.
