Racers Improve 20 Shots - Knight 3 Shots Off Lead

The Murray State men's golf team showed  a glimpse the potential they have in the second round of the FAU Slomin Autism Invite at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens Florida.
With a team of four underclassmen, the Racers improved 20 shots with a 296 and moved up two spots to 11th place, only 24 hours after they carded a 316. The Racers passed Hartford and Morehead State.
The final round is set for Sunday morning on the Squire Course at PGA National.
MSU's Austin Knight had a spot in fourth place and only three shots off the lead after scores of 72-71=143. The Murray State freshman is third in the field in par-4 scoring at 4.00 strokes per hole. He also recorded one of only 15 eagles (the only one on a par-4) in the event when he made a two on the par-4 13th hole. Measuring 307 yards, Knight hit his tee shot into the wind to 82 yards of the green. His wedge shot hit the stick and went into the hole for an eagle.
Other MSU scores included Gabe Wheeler in 39th place after rounds of 82-72=154 and Matthew Winder in 45th place with scores of 80-75=155. Avery Edwards was in 65th place with scores of 82-78=160 and Matthew Zakutney was in 67th place after scores of 82-79=161.
The Racers (612) are in 11th place, three shots from Stetson (609) and seven from host Florida Atlantic (605).

Central Florida was the leader at 579, ahead of Jacksonville State (590). Georgetown (592), Florida Gulf Coast (593) and Connecticut (595) made up the to-5.

UCF's Manuel Elvira was the leader with rounds of 68-72=140.

A field of 77 players are taking on the Squire course at PGA National which is playing to a distance of 6,447 yards and to a par of 72.
