Racers Defeat the Governors

The Murray State Women's tennis team defeated the Governors of Austin Peay 4-3 on Wednesday (April 12) at Purcell Tennis Courts in Murray, Kentucky and clinched the Battle of the Border.

The Racers clinched the doubles point as Sara Bjork and Jeanne Masson defeated their pair of Isabela Jovanovic and Lidia Yanes Garcia 6-3. Anja Loncarevic and Amina Hadzic were the first duo done as they beat the Govs' Claudia Yanes Garcia and Brittney Covington 6-2. Alina Schibol and Claire Chang did not finish their set but were leading 5-4.

In the singles, Sara Loncarevic defeated her opponent 6-4, 6-4. Claire Chang rallied back after losing the first set to send her into a third. Chang ended up winning 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 over Helena Kuppig. Jeanne Masson won over Isabela Jovanovic 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 to win the match against the Governors.

Anja Loncarevic lost 1-6, 5-7 to Lidia Yanes Garcia. Amina Hadzic fell 2-6, 1-6 to Claudia Yanes Garcia.  Alina Schibol lost 5-7, 6-3, 4-6 to Ana Albertson.
Murray State moves to 6-11 on the 2017 season.

The Racers will take on the Colonels of Eastern Kentucky Saturday (April 15) for the last match of the season at Purcell Courts in Murray, Kentucky.
