The Murray State Racers posted an OVC Women's Golf Tournament record 286 (2-under-par) in the opening round at Hampton Cove Golf Club in Owens Cross Roads, Alabama on Monday. The eventful day also included a record-tying 4-under-par 68 from Racer sophomore Linette Holmslykke.
Â
However, defending champion Eastern Kentucky also broke the OVC record with a 286, meaning the two will go head-to-head in Tuesday's second round.
Â
Holmslykke's 68 earned her a share of the lead in the field of 45 players with EKU's Elsa Moberly who also broke the OVC record with a
68. The Racers got a 1-under-par 71 from Lucila Puente
Rodriguez de Austria, which was good for a spot in fifth place. Defending OVC medalist Moa Folke was in seventh place with a 73 and Raeysha Surendran was in 10th place after a 74. Anna Moore was MSU's fifth player in the top-20 with a spot in 18th place with a round of 76.
Â
After the Racers and Colonels in first place, Jacksonville State was in third place at 300. Morehead State was in fourth place at 302 and Austin Peay held down fifth place at 303. The rest of the field included Belmont (213), Tennessee Tech (316), Tennessee State (333) and Eastern Illinois (335).
Â
The Racers will be paired with EKU and JSU in Tuesday's second round. MSU's Anna Moore will hit the Racers' first shot of the day at 9:40 a.m.
Â
Later Monday evening, the teams will gather at the Hampton Cove clubhouse to have a meal together and announce the All-OVC teams.

There were five rounds under par in the first round. After Holmsykke and Moberly at 68, Sam Sandling of EKU and Valentina Giraldo of JSU each had a 70. MSU's Puente Raodirguez had a 71.
Â
The former record for a single round at the OVC tournament was a 291 by Morehead State in 2011 at GreyStone GC in Dickson, Tennessee. The former single-round mark for the Racers was also in 2011 with a 297. Amzingly, MSU and EKU each broke the record on the same day.
Â
Holmsykke's record-tying single round for the OVC Tournament came on six birdies and a pair of bogeys. There are three other instances of a 68 in the OVC Tournament. The last was in 2014 when Murray State's Delaney Howson shot 68 at The Shoals GC in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, on her way to the individual tite. Her 68 came in the second round. EKU's Sofie Levin had a 68 in the third round at Hampton Cove in 2015. EKU's Anna Gleixner also had a 68 in 2016 at Hampton Cove in the first round. EKU's Moberly also made it a record day.
Â
Puente Rodriguez led the field in round one by playing Hampton Cove's par-3 holes at 2-under-par. Holmslykke was tops on par-4 holes at 2-under. Holmslykke was tied for the lead in total birdies with six with APSU's Anna Michele Moore.
