Who's New?
Rico McGrawjoins the Racers after spending two seasons at Georgia. He joins his brother Mareio McGraw on the MSU team. McGraw appeared in nine games in two seasons in Athens and worked his way into the starting lineup for the Bulldogs. He finished the 2015 season with 20 tackles including a career-high of eight at Tennessee and four pass breakups.
Mareio McGraw said of his brother, "I think he is a big asset, not only for me but for the whole team. He will be a big help for the defense, let alone the team."
Marcus Meredith transferred to Murray State in January 2016, and went through spring practices. Before the start of the 2017 season, Meredith suffered a season-ending injury and was unable to play 2016. The San Clemente, California native ended a two-year career at Saddleback CC by leading the team to a CCCAA title game.
Zachary Wade said, "Marcus is like a brother to me. We have been playing for a few years together and it was a tough loss last year when he got hurt. I am just really proud of him because he has worked really hard to get back. I'm excited to get on the same field as him again."
Who's Back?
D'Montre Wade has appeared in 31 games over his three seasons with MSU. During those seasons, the Columbia, Tennessee native has racked up 143 tackles, 32 pass deflections, and four interceptions. This past season, Wade had 50 tackles and 18 passes defended, the third-highest total in the FCS, on his way to second-team All-OVC honors.
Zachary Wade joined the Racers from Saddleback CC in January 2016. During his single season at MSU, Wade led the Racers with 90 tackles, five pass deflections, and three fumble recoveries. He also had one interception for 18-yards and was named to the OVC All-Newcomer team following the conclusion of the season.
Other Racers who are also returning include Marquez Sanford, Zach Shipley, Isaiah Foster, Dylan Boone, Ernest Kenty, Greg Willard, Sean Moore, Nigel Walton and D'Vaughn Whitt.
D'Montre Wade said, "I feel as a unit it will be a great year. We have worked hard in the offseason; it is the hardest I have worked while at Murray State. I feel like our hard work will come out this spring."
Who's Gone?
Toby Omli transferred to Murray State after spending two years at Butler CC. During his time at MSU, Omli recorded 122 total tackles, two pass deflections and two forced fumbles.
Zachary Wade said, "Toby kind of set the tone for us. We are trying to have players set up and replace that energy and production on the field."
Who's in Charge?
Corico Wright joined the Racers in spring of 2016 after spending three seasons with his alma mater, Clemson. While with the Tigers, Wright was the defensive graduate assistant.
Zachary Wade said, "Coach Wright pushes you to reach your ultimate potential. He definitely makes you raise your level of play."
