Racers Compete At Jesse Owens Invite At Ohio State

The Murray State women's track & field team competed over the weekend at Ohio State's Jesse Owens Invite in Columbus, Ohio and at the Bellarmine Classic in Louisville, Kentucky.

Here are the highlights from the weekend for the Racers.
Â
Sprints
MSU's Norma Norma Abdur-Rafia finished seventh in the 400 meter run with a time of 55.79 and moved from seventh to fifth place on the MSU top-10 lost.

Tamdra Lawrence had a 12th place showing in the 100 meter run with a time of 11.91.
Â
At the Bellarmine Classic, Aubrey Main placed fifth in the 100 meter hurdles at 16.75, while D'Myia Thornton was third in the 400 meter run with a time of 1:01.29. She also competed in the 200 meter run and placed 10th with a time of 27.97.

Middle Distance
In the 400 meter hurdles, MSU's Jocelyn Payne placed 10th with a time of 1:02.

At the Bellarmine Classic, Emily Evans was 19th in the 1500 meter run with a time of 5:10.43, while Katelyn Gilbert was 21st at 5:17. In the 800 meter run MSU got a sixth place finish from Evans at 2:35.67 and a seventh place showing by Gilbert at 2:36.02. Taylor Adcock was third in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.71. Zan McClelland of the MSU cross country team competed in the 800 meter run with a time of 21:00.66.

Distance
Meagan Smith continued her great spring when she posted a third place finish in section one of the 5000 meter run with a time of 17:48, which was only five seconds from her PR.

Ali Hester recorded the second fastest mile at MSU when she placed second a time of 5:01. Hester blew her previous PR away that was 5:19. Rebekah Priddy placed fifth with a time of 5:21 which was fifth on the MSU all-time list.

In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Hester had another good finish and placed ninth with a time of 11:04. She moved up to fourth on the MSU all-time list. Mason Swenson placed 14th at 11:19 and Rebekah Priddy was 15th at 11:20.

Emily Flaherty ran at the Bellarmine Classic in the 5000 meter event and placed 11th at 19:25. From the MSU cross country team, Gavin Galanes placed 12th in the 5000 meter run with a time of 15:32.

Field Events
Jabreuna Brimlett long jump with a spot in 12th place on a leap of 18-feet. She also competed in the triple jump and had an effort of 36-feet 6-inches, which earned a 12th place finish.

Relays
The Racers had a third place showing in the 4x100 relay as Taylor McCammon, Norma Abdur-Rafia, Jocelyn Payne and Tamdra Lawrence had a time of 46.59. MSU was only little more than a second off Ohio State's winning time.

In the 1600 meter relay, MSU placed second with Tamdra Lawrence, Norma Abdur-Rafia, Hilary McAdam, Jocelyn Payne, Anna Curlin and Tia Weston recording a time of 3:47.

Murray State has one more meet before the OVC Championships. The Racers travel to the Memphis Invitational (April 28-29) before the OVC Championship begins May 11.
