Zakutney Carries Lead Into Arkansas State Final Round

As a team, the Racers trimmed three shots from their first round 302 with a second round 299. Their 601 total was good for a spot in sixth place in the field of 16 teams. MSU was three shots behind fifth place Missouri State (598) and four from fourth place SIUE (597). Host Arkansas State had the lead at 589, ahead of the ASU second team (590) and UT Martin (592).

MSU's Gabe Wheeler was in 19^th place after scores of 77-74=151, while Austin Knight was in 35^th place on rounds of 78-76=154. Matthew Winder had a spot in 45^th place with scores of 74-81=155. Avery Edwards withdrew from the second round after carding an 85 in round one.

Justin Wendling is playing the event for the Racers as an individual and was in 55^th place with scores of 78-79=157.

Tuesday's final round is set for 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.

RidgePointe CC is playing to a par-72 and a length of 6676 yards.

The Racers will be paired with Missouri State and SIUE in the final round.

Matthew Zakutney's overnight lead was helped along today by three eagles. All three came on a different par-5 at RidgePointe.

Zakutney's (73-68=141) nearest competition Tuesday for the medalist title will come from ASU's Matthew Cole (72-70=142) who is one shot back and Hunter Richardson of UTM (70-74=144) who is three shots back.

Gabe Wheeler is third in the field of 87 players with 25 total pars.

Matthew Winder is third in the field in par-3 scoring with an average per hole at 2.88.
