Belmont was able to jump out to an early 8-0 lead after two innings of play Sunday in Nashville and the Murray State baseball team couldn't recover from the quick onslaught, dropping the series finale to the Bruins, 14-4.

After the Bruins (21-21, 14-10 OVC) got three runs in the bottom of the first and a five-run second inning, Aaron Bence would get the Racers (22-22, 10-11 OVC) on the board for the first time with a home run the left center. It was Bence's first career homer at MSU.

Davis Sims' sixth home run of the season in the top of the sixth, the cut the Racer deficit to 11-2 and later on in the seventh, Sims and Jack Hranec both got RBI hits to make the score 12-4 in favor of the Bruins. Belmont would go on to make it 14-4 with two runs in the bottom half of the inning.

MSU had the bases loaded with two outs in the top of the eighth when the game went into a lightning delay. After about an hour-long delay, the game was called on account of rain and lightning.

The Racers had five players with two hits each in the loss as they collected 14 hits overall in the contest. Bence led the way by going 2-for-3 at the plate while Kipp Moore and Sims both went 2-for-4. Brandon Gutzler and Jack Hranec both went 2-for-5 at the dish on the day. Gutzler extends his on-base streak to 42 consecutive games now dating back to the second game of the season.

Luke Brown took the loss in the finale as he got the start on the hill. Brown pitched just 1.2 innings and gave up seven runs on five hits. MSU used five other pitchers in relief in the loss.

The loss snaps the Racers' season-high five-game winning streak. MSU now returns to action Tuesday as it travels to Missouri for a 6 p.m. contest. Tuesday's game can be seen live on the SEC Network.
