5/4/2017 2:23:00 PM | Softball
Seniors Cayla Levins, Mason Robinson and Jessica Twaddle were all honored Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) by being named as Academic All-District selections. The CoSIDA Academic All-District and All-American® teams are designed to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
This is the second time in Murray State softball history that three Racers have been earned the honor. The three selections is most of any school in the nation for 2017, tying MSU with Fordham, Georgia State, Illinois, Louisiana and Stanford.
Levins, an outfielder and elementary education major with a 3.66 GPA, has had an outstanding senior season and is currently batting a career-best .338. The Jacksonville, Florida native has driven in 20 runs on the year and scored an additional 22. She has belted out 10 extra-base hits on the years with eight doubles, a triple and a home run and is a perfect 4-for-4 in stolen base attempts. In addition, as an outfielder, she has committed just three errors in the field.
Robinson, a pitcher and an elementary education major with a 3.53 GPA, has broken record after record for Murray State this season. The Lewis Center, Ohio native has already amassed the most wins in a career for a Murray State pitcher with 67 and the most wins in a single-season with 22. She is on pace to end her career with the lowest ERA in program history at 2.33 which is bolstered by a career-low 1.77 this season. The three-time OVC Pitcher of the Week in 2017 has struck out 102 batters this season and issued just 27 walks for the best strikeout-to-walk ratio of her career at 3.7:1.
Twaddle is a graduate student who graduated in December with a degree in economics and a 3.97 GPA. After a slight drop in production in 2016, the 2015 OVC Player of the Year has returned to form in 2017 with a team-leading .411 average. The Franklin, Tennessee native currently leads MSU in doubles with 13, home runs, with 12, RBIs with 38 and walks with 21. She will likely end her career with the best batting average in program history, which currently stands at .379. Twaddle is now tied with Shelbey Miller for the most hits in program history at 229 and will become the sole leader with her next hit.
This was the third honor of Twaddle's career making her the first Racer to ever earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors in each year of eligibility. For Levins and Robinson, it was the first honor of their careers making them the fifth and sixth Racers to receive the honor.

All three women now advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first, second and third team All-America® honorees will be selected later this month.
