Knight Paces Racers At Kentucky State Am

Austin Knight led a group of three current and former Murray State golfers at the 102nd Kentucky State Amateur championship at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky.
Knight, a Racers' sophomore in the fall, placed 11th on scores of 69-74-75=216, while another sophomore to be, Avery Edwards, placed 67th on rounds of 75-79-81=235. The third current Racer in the event was incoming freshman Connor Coombs of Central City, Ky., who qualified for the tournament as medalist in Bowling Green with a 73. At the State final, he missed the cut after scores of 77-84=161.
Hunter York (2011-13) led the way for three former MSU players with spot in fifth place. York had scores of 71-67-73=211. Josh Rhodes (2002-04) placed 11th on rounds of 69-74-73=216, while Chris Griffin (2006-10) placed 32nd on scores of 75-72-76=223.
The winner of the Kentucky State Am title was Tyler McDaniel with scores of 64-66-71=201.
Wheeler Plays In Missouri Amateur
MSU's Gabe Wheeler played in the Missouri State Amateur at St. Joseph Country Club in St. Joseph, Mo. The junior in the fall shot a 79-75=154 in qualifying and missed making the match-play bracket of 64 players. He earlier qualified by taking a share of medalist honors with a score of 69 at the Falls Golf Club in St. Louis.
