Wheeler Leads Racers At 81st Cobb Championship

A group of 23 current and former Murray State men's golf players competed over the weekend at the 81^st Irvin Cobb Championship at Paxton Park Golf Course in Paducah, Kentucky.

Among current Racers was Gabe Wheeler who placed third with scores of 72-69=141, while Lance Davis (74-73=147) and Avery Edwards (75-72=147) shared eighth place. Justin Wendling turned in a 10^th place showing on scores of 75-74=149. Quinn Eaton (76-74=150) and Austin Knight (75-75=150) shared 11^th place, while Rhett Cardwell (71-81=152) placed 13^th. Cole Manion (77-79=156) finished 17^th.

Chris Griffin, who played on the Racers' last Ohio Valley Conference championship team in 2010 placed third with scores of 72-69=141.

The Racers had five former players in the Cobb Championship professional field, led by recently departed senior Matthew Zakutney who just finished up in May. In his pro debut, Zakutney was a third place finisher on scores of 67-70=137. Cameron Carrico (71-67=138) and Nick Newcomb, who also played on the Racers' 2010 OVC title team, shared fourth place.
