Racers Enter Season With Greater Expectations

2017-18 MSU Men's Golf Schedule
The 2017-18 golf schedule for the Murray State men's team has come together and promises to be a challenging test for
Coach Eddie Hunt's squad.

The fall portion of the schedule begins at the home of MSU golf, Miller Memorial Golf Course, when the Racers look to win their home event for the first time since 2015. 36 holes of play are scheduled Monday.

The remaining fall tournaments for MSU includes the EKU Classic (Sept. 16-17), Derek Donlenc Invitational hosted by SIUE (Sept. 25-26), Skyhawk Classic (Oct. 2-3), APSU Intercollegiate (Oct. 16-17) and Samford Intercollegiate (Oct. 23-24). After a trip to Arizona for the Snowman Getaway (Feb. 25-26), the Racers get to play three consecutive events in Florida hosted by South Florida University (March 12-13), George Mason (March 17-18) and Florida Atlantic (March 23-25). MSU returns to the TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate (April 9-10) at the Hermitage in Nashville, which will be their final event before the Ohio Valley Conference Championship (April 23-25) at the Shoals in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. MSU will be seeking their first league title since 2010.

The Racers have had a very competitive fall qualifying and the season-opening home event next week at Miller Memorial will see the Racers field a pair of teams. The Racers return one performer that was recognized as a freshman. Now a sophomore, Austin Knight was named to the OVC All-Newcomer Team last spring.

"We had a very young team a year ago, but that experience should give us confidence coming into this fall," said Hunt, who is entering his 16th season at the helm of the Racer program. "We're going up against a lot of good competition in 2017 and 2018. I think our spring schedule is very attractive with a trip to Arizona and then three events in Florida. We want to be playing our best when we get to the OVC Championship in mid-April."
