Amundson Adds Six For 2020 Season

Murray State head coach Kara Amundson announced the signing class of 2020, as six talented student-athletes look to continue their academic and athletic careers as Racers. Lily Fischer, Chloe Jacque, Gracey Murt, Tyler Shemwell, Jenna Veber, and Bailey Woodward all look to enroll at MSU next fall and take the field for the Racers in the spring of 2020.

"We are really excited about the 2019-20 class and the diversity that they bring athletically and as young women," said coach Kara Amundson. "We have players from all over the country coming into a program that is constantly competing for an Ohio Valley Conference title and hopefully beyond."

2019 Murray State Softball Signing Class

Lily Fischer – (Marysville, Wa. / Marysville-Pilchuck High School)

A four-year letter winner and two-year captain for the Marysville-Pilchuck Tomahawks, Fischer earned All-Wesco 3A North team honors in three straight seasons while garnering All-Area honors in two seasons with MPHS. Fischer also posted a .630 batting average in her junior season.

Amundson on Fischer:"Lily is our first ever recruit from the state if Washington, and we couldn't be happier. Lily brings the ability to be a gap and power hitter to the lineup. She is a smart and strong corner defensively that understands the game really well. We are excited about adding her to the Racer Softball Family.

Chloe Jacque – (Riverside, Iowa / Lone Tree Community School)

Since she was an eighth grader, Jacque has participated with the Lone Tree Softball program earning Second Team All-Conference honors beginning in her first season with the team up to her junior season in 2018. During her junior season, she was awarded First Team All-Conference while also brining home Third Team All-State honors. A native of Riverside, Iowa, she has lead the Lions in stolen bases since 2015 while leading the team in on base percentage, batting average, and slugging percentage since her freshman season in 2016.

Amundson on Jacque: "Chloe is goint to add a ton of speed to our lineup both offensively and defensively. As a lefty slapper, she makes defenses work really hard to make clean plays in order to get her out. Defensively, Chloe can play a variety of positions, including middle infield, catcher and outfield, and does them all well. She is a bulldog that is going to push her limits to get better every day."

Gracey Murt (Benton, Ky. / Marshall County High School)

As a junior, Murt helped lead the Marshals to wins in the 2018 Disctrict and Regional Championships while earning All-District, All-Region Tournament, East-West All-Stars, First Team All-Purchase, and Female Athlete of the Year honors on the season. She posted a .388 batting average, with 24 singles, six doubles, and seven triples, and five home runs while batting in 36 runs. The native of Benton, Kentucky, also scored 35 runs, had a slugging percentage of .680 and had a near-perfect fielding percentage of .974.

Amundson on Murt:"Gracey is a competitor and her accolades that she gained during her junior high school season speak for themselves. Gracey also has the ability to play a variety of positions. She is a contact hitter with some definite power potential. We are excited to see how she continues to grow."

Tyler Shemwell – (Hopkinsville, Ky. / Christian County High School)

Shemwell joins the Racers after an impressive career at Christian County. During her senior season, she earned Class 3A Second Team All-State honors and a State All-Tournament nod in 2018.

Amundson on Shemwell:"Tyler is an absolute workhorse and an incredible teammate. She is a solid outfielder that is only going to continue to grow in her skill and speed. She is a contact hitter with definite power potential to add to the lineup. She is also a solid base runner."

Jenna Veber – (Oswego, IL. / Oswego High School)

A four-year letter winner for Oswego High, Veber helped lead the Panthers to their first winning season in more than 24 seasons as a freshman while making the Regional Championship game for the first time in 20 years. As a junior last season, she boasted an impressive stat line as a dual threat offensively and defensively. As a hitter, she logged an on base percentage of.414, a .522 slugging percentage, and an OPS of .936. She went 8-4 in the circle for OHS with a .875 ERA and a 1.042 WHIP. Veber ranked 37 on Scout Softball's Top 150 Players in 2017, while currently sitting in the 17^thspot on the 2019 player ranking.

Amundson on Veber:"Jenna is a strong, athletic pitcher who gets it done both on the mound and in the batter's box. She throws hard and attacks the zone really well. She is a confident pitcher that we are excited to add to our staff. She also consistently hits in the three or four spots for her teams and is an offensive threat."

Bailey Woodward (Madisonville, Ky. / Madisonville North Hopkins High School)

A six-year letterman for the Lady Maroons, Woodward hit her first high school homerun as a seventh grader. As a member of the Southern Force travel team, Woodward helped lead the Force to the ASA Class "A" Nationals title in 2014. During her sophomore campaign as a starter, she led Madisonville North Hopkins to the school's first state championship title win. Last season, she logged a .292 batting average with 20 RBIs and one homerun while posting a .909 fielding percentage.

Amundson on Woodward:"Bailey has been a part of some very successful high school and travel teams over the past few years including having a State Championship under her belt. She is a gritty competitor and knows how to work through adversity. She has a high ceiling and we are excited to have her as a part of the 2019 class."
