Puente Rodriguez Medalist At Kiawah Island - Racers Second

Final Results
The Murray State's Lucila Puente Rodriguez de Austria carded the round of her collegiate career Tuesday when she moved from 11th place to first to capture a share of the medalist title with a final round 4-under par 68 at the Kiawah Island Spring Classic in Kiawah Island, S.C.

Her round was no ordinary 68, if there there is such a thing, This came in very difficult conditions when Puente Rodriguez was the only player in the field of 216 players that carded an under-par score. There was a three-way tie for first place, as the Racers' sophomore shared the medalist honor with Valentina Giraldo of Jacksonville State and Lyberty Anderson of UNC Wilmington. Puente Rodriguez had a tremendous event with scores of 70-73-68=211.

The Racers outpaced all but one of the field of 43 teams that played on two courses including the Osprey Point and Oak Point courses.

The Racers carded rounds of 290-288-301=879 to get second place by three shots over Jacksonville at 882. Host College of Charleston was the winner with an 872. After the Racers and Jacksonville in second and third place, UNC Wilmington was fourth (886) and Western Kentucky was fifth (889).

MSU's Anna Moore surged to a fourth-place showing and a spot on the All-Tournament team on scores of 70-71-73=214. Moa Folke placed 70th after rounds of 74-73=81=228, while Raeysha Surendran placed 92nd on scores of 76-71-84=231. Linette Holmslykke had a spot in 113th place scores of 78-76-79=233.

Jane Watts played the event as an individual for the Racers and had scores of 80-77-82=239 and finished in 147th place.

The Racers' next challenge is the North Florida Collegiate (March 5-6) at Jacksonville Golf & Country Club in Jacksonville, Florida.
