The Game
The Murray State softball team welcomes Southern Illinois to Racer Field Wednesday to close out an eight game home stand. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
Last Time Out
Despite tallying 20 hits Monday, the Racers scored just two runs and fell in both games of a doubleheader to UT Martin, 3-2 in eight innings and 4-0. On Sunday, the Racers lost a pair of late leads and fell in heartbreaking fashion to Southeast Missouri twice, 8-7 and 11-8.
The Southern Illinois Series
Murray State split with SIU earlier this season at the Coach B Classic with Murray State winning game one, 5-3, and the Salukis taking game two, 8-0, in six innings. With the split, Murray State now trails the all-time series with SIU, 5-3, but is 1-1 in game in Murray.
Scouting The Salukis
The Salukis dropped all three games in the series with Drake last weekend and are now 20-15 overall and 4-6 in the Missouri Valley. SIU will enter Wednesday hitting .270 as a team, allowing opponents to hit .259 against them and have a staff ERA of 2.97. Katelyn Massa leads the way for SIU at the plate with a .350 average and a team-high 36 RBI, while Maddy Vermejan follows closely behind at .344. In the circle, Brianna Jones is 16-4 in 27 appearances with a 1.98 ERA. She currently allows opponents to hit .239 against her and has a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 3.6 with 131 strikeouts and 36 walks.
