The Murray State softball team continues its eight-game home stand Wednesday with a non-conference affair against in-Commonwealth rival Western Kentucky at 5 p.m.
Last Time Out
The Racers extended their current skid to eight games last Friday when fell in both games of a doubleheader to Jacksonville State, 9-3 and 5-0. Madison Culver was one of the highlights offensively for MSU in the doubleheaders, as she went 4-for-6 including a perfect 3-for-3 performance in game one.
The Western Kentucky Series
Murray State is 2-8 all-time against Western Kentucky with both of those wins coming in Murray where the Racers are 2-2. Both of Murray State's wins in the series were shutouts, while half of the eight losses to WKU came by just one run.
Scouting The Hilltoppers
Western Kentucky is 21-12 on the year after winning two of three games on the road last weekend at Charlotte. Paige Carter currently powers WKU's team average of .288 with a team-high clip of .355, as well as 28 RBIs. In the circle, the Hilltopper pitchers have a staff ERA of 3.13 and limiting opponents to a .263 average at the plate. Leading Western Kentucky this season, has been Shelby Nunn who is 13-8 with 2.82 ERA, 77 strikeouts and an opponent's batting average of .270.
Wednesday's forecast is sunny but cold with a high of just 50. There is little chance for rain, but the winds will be moderate at 8-12 mph out of the northwest.
Madison Culver became the fourth Racer this season to come up with three hits when she was 3-for-3 against Jacksonville State joining Lillie Goetz, Brenna Finck and Sierra Gilmore.

So far this season Murray State is 5-1 when holding opponents to two or fewer runs, while conversely it is 1-14 when being held to two or less itself.
