NCAA Practice Day At University Ridge For Racers

The Murray State Racers enjoyed a practice round at the University Ridge Golf Club Sunday, in advance of their first round Monday in the NCAA Women's Golf Championship at the regional in Madison, Wisconsin.

The 2018 Ohio Valley Conference champions are in the NCAA regional for a back-to-back season and for the fifth time.

The Racers are the 16th seed in the field of 18 teams and play the first round paired with North Dakota State and IUPUI. Starting from the 10th tee, Murray State's Raeshya Surendran will hit the first shot of the event for the Racers at 9:39 a.m. CT, with Linette Holmslykke to follow at 9:48 a.m. CT, then Anna Moore at 9:57 a.m., Lucila Puente Rodriguez at 10:06 a.m. and Moa Folke at 10:15 a.m.

The Racers are trying to advance to the NCAA finals when the three-day event ends Wednesday. No OVC champion has been able to advance since the conference began sending its champion to the NCAA Tournament in 2005. In 14 combined tries, the Racers are 0-4 and Jacksonville State is 0-5. Eastern Kentucky is 0-3 and Morehead State couldn't advance in 2011.

You can be certain; the Racers are going to give it their best shot to be among the top-6 teams on Wednesday punching their ticket to the next round.

The Racers are going up against some of the top teams in the nation. Four of the Golf Stat top-15 teams are here including: Duke (4), USC (6), Arizona State (12) and Northwestern (13). There are eight other teams here in the top-50 including: Illinois (20), Purdue (23), Iowa State (27), Virginia (31) host Wisconsin (36), Campbell (37), Ohio State (44) and Notre Dame (47). The Racers carry a Golf Stat ranking of 88 into the competition.

A total of 384 participants are in the NCAA's four regionals. 132 will advance to the championships finals at (May 18-23) at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Six teams and three individuals will advance from each regional. The other three regional sites include TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, California, the University of Texas Golf Club in Austin, Texas and the Don Veller Seminole Golf Course & Club in Tallahassee, Florida.

Apart from advancing, the Racers will also take aim at Murray State and OVC records for NCAA competition.
