Culver, Goetz Garner OVC Honors

Juniors Madison Culver and Lillie Goetz of the Murray State softball team were honored at the annual OVC Softball Awards Banquet Tuesday night in Oxford, Alabama. Culver was named first-team All-OVC as a catcher, while Goetz was named to the All-Newcomer team.
"I'm really excited for Madison for her first team honor," said head coach Kara Amundson. "She worked so hard to be a stronghold for us behind the plate this year and is incredibly deserving of the award. Lillie hit the ground running as soon as she got on campus for us this fall. She was constantly in the top half of the lineup for us and was selfless in playing multiple positions for us this year. I'm really excited for what their senior year holds for both Madison and Lillie."
Culver batted .280 on the season and an impressive .338 in league play. Culver finished her junior year with the second-most RBIs on the team at 29 with 13 doubles, a triple and three home runs. As a catcher, Culver committed just five errors in 228 chances, threw out 15 base runners and allowed just two passed balls. The Riverview, Florida native also put together the Racers' longest hitting streak of the season at 15.
Goetz made quite the impact in her first season since transferring from Louisville by batting .303 with 16 doubles, five triples, three home runs and 26 RBIs. She also led the team with a slugging percentage of .515, drew 16 walks and scored the second-most runs on the team with 34. The Owensboro, Kentucky native led MSU in multiple-RBI games with eight and also had 10 games in which she had multiple hits.
Culver is now the 15th different Racer to earn All-OVC status representing 22 total accolades. She is just the second catcher in MSU history to be named to the All-OVC first team, joining Lauren Buch from 2011, and is the ninth first-team selection overall for Murray State.
Goetz becomes the 11th Murray State player to be selected to the All-Newcomer team and the first transfer to earn the honor as Racers since Jenna Bradley and Megan Glosser did so in 2010, the inaugural year of the program.
