Kubin Scores As Racers Open 2018

The Murray State women's soccer team dropped their exhibition match, 2-1, despite a strong start against Samford Friday at Cutchin Field in Murray, Kentucky.
The 2017 OVC Freshman of the Year Rebecca Kubin picked up where she left off with a 31st minute strike after a swift change of pace freed up the goal for MSU's lone score of the day. MSU remained aggressive offensively as they attempted four shots in the first frame, but they were evenly matched in every area by the Bulldogs, who also took four shots with three on goal in the opening half. Samford found the back of the net minutes before heading into the half with a goal from Caroline Orman to even the contest at one.
The second half proved to feature a similar tale, as neither squad could find the back of the net for a majority of the period. The Bulldogs were finally able to capitalize on one of seven shot attempts in the second half with the game-winning goal from Korrie Sauder in the 74th minute
Murray State finished with ten shots and four being on goal, while Alex Steigerwald finished the match with three saves.
The Racers will return to action next Friday as they host Western Kentucky for their season opener at Cutchin Field at 3 p.m.
