Racer Student-Athletes Honored on Academic Recognition Night

During halftime of the men's basketball 100-62 victory over Tennessee State, Saturday night, Murray State University recognized the student-athletes from all sports who had been honored academically by the school, the Ohio Valley Conference and a multitude of other organizations.
Overall, 114 Racers were named to the OVC commissioners honor roll in 2017-18 and 205 student-athletes were named to the Dean's List between the Spring 2018 and Fall 2018 semesters. In the fall semester, Murray State student-athletes carried an overall GPA of 3.10.
The OVC also awarded 16 Racers the Medal of Honor, which honors student-athletes who carried a perfect 4.0 GPA for the 2017-18 academic year. The winners were:Â

Women's Basketball – Paige Barrett
Men's Cross-Country – Tyler Bradley
Women's Cross-Country, Track & Field – Mallory Unverfehrt, Haley Webb
Football – James Sappington, Zach Shipley
Men's Golf – Quinn Eaton, Cole Manion
Women's Golf – Moa Folke, Anna Moore
Rifle – Meike Drewell, Ben Estes, Ivan Roe
Volleyball – Alex Kaufmann, Megan Lindsay
Men's cross country and softball were also recognized for the winning the Team Academic Achievement Award from the OVC, which is presented annually in each conference-sponsored sport to the member institution's team with the greatest percentage of its eligible student-athletes who achieved a 3.25 GPA or higher.
Other teams and student-athletes that were recognized for honors awarded by national organizations include:
Softball - 15 student-athletes were honored by the Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association as All-America Scholar-Athletes; Amber Van Duyse and Leah Kesel named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District® Team selected by CoSIDA
Volleyball - 2017-18 American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award recipient
Women's Golf - Moa Folke, Linette Holmslykke, and Jane Watts named Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholars
Men's and Women's Cross Country - 2017 US Track and Field & Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Teams
Women's Track & Field - 2018 USTFCCCA All-Academic Team
Football – Zach Shipley was a 2017 second-team Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America; James Sappington named to the 2018 District 2 Google Cloud Academic All-District team selected by CoSIDA
