Coombs Leads The Way For MSU At Turtle Point

The Murray State men's golf team started the TVA Community Credit Union Invitational with a spot in third place after they posted a score of 292 at Turtle Point Country Club. Florence, Alabama.

The Racers were two shots behind host North Alabama (290) and leader UT Martin (287). New Orleans was in fourth place, while UNA (B) (295), Rollins (300), Samford (301), Southeastern Louisiana (307) and Chicago State (318) rounded out the field.

Connor Coombs led the way for the Racers with a spot in sixth place in the field of 71 competitors after a 2-under-par 70. Other MSU scores and places include Dalton Bagwell in ninth place after a 71 and Avery Edwards in 25th place after a 74. Austin Knight had a spot in 50th place on a score of 77 and Justin Wendling was in 67th after an 83.

MSU's James Boone and Carson Holmes are in the event as individuals. Boone was in 20th position on a 73 and Holmes was in 35th place after a 75.

Coombs is two shots off the lead with the final 18 to play Tuesday morning. UTM's Jack Story, Ike Alexander of North Alabama and Karl-Filip Einarsson of UNA share the lead each with a 4-under-par 68.

The day was scheduled for 36 holes of play, but rain shortened it to 18. The rained out round won't be made up and Tuesday's round is the final 18. Â
