Surendran's 66 Gives Racers A Chance In Tuesday Final Round

After a long day of 36 holes , the Murray State women's golf team tries for a comeback win Tuesday at the Chris Banister Classic at Silver Springs Golf Course in Glencoe, Alabama, and senior Raeshya Surendran tries for her first college victory.

The Racers are five shots behind leader Troy when the final round commences at 8 a.m. Tuesday and Surendran is up by four.

After posting a morning round of 300, the Racers were eight shots behind Troy's 292. In the afternoon round, the Racers trimmed three shots with a 298. Murray State is four shots clear of third place James Madison (602). Host Jacksonville State is in fourth at 614 and Elon is fifth at 624.

MSU's Surendran posted her low round in her collegiate career with the Racers when she started the second round with five birdies (including four in a row) in her first eight holes and finished with a 6-under-par 66. Her 66 was one shot off the MSU record of 65 that Linette Holmslykke carded at the NCAA Regional at Auburn last May. Surendran is trying to win a medalist title for the first time at Murray State in her 36th event. Her scores of 74-66=140 is four shots ahead of JMU's kate Owens who had scores of 72-72=144.

Other MSU scores and standing includes Sarah McDowell in 11th place on scores of 79-74=153. Payton Carter and Ana Garcia Picchi share 16th place. Carter had rounds of 73-81=154 and Picchi 74-80=154. Eliza Kho fired rounds of 79-66=145 and was in 27th place. Â

The Racers have two in the field of 62 players playing as individuals. Lucila Puente Rodriguez de Austria was in 36th place after posting 79-83=162. Charli Jo Doss was in 43rd place on scores of 82-81=163.

The Silver Springs Golf Course is part of Alabama's Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail and is playing to a par-72 and 6,107 yards.

Tuesday's final round begins at 8:15 a.m. with Eliza Kho the first off from the No. 1 tee. Surendran anchors the Racers and hits her first shot at 8:51 a.m.
