Katelyn Young of Oakwood High School in Illinois became the third signee for the Murray State women's basketball team, head coach Rechelle Turner announced Friday.
"Katelyn will bring toughness and a remarkable level of skill into the post at Murray State," said Turner. "She is an uncanny low post scorer, and she possesses the skill to space the floor into the high post and to the three-point line as both shooter and passer. Katelyn is a relentless competitor, and her combination of will and talent have her primed for a fabulous collegiate career. We are excited to have Katelyn join our Racer family.
Young, a 6-1 forward, is a three-time AP Class 2A All-State selection, earning honorable mention status in 2017 and 2018 and first team honors in 2019. She has also been honored by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association as an All-State selection three times with a third-team nod in 2017, a second-team in 2018 and a first-team in 2019. As a junior, the Oakwood, Illinois native averaged 18.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.
In addition, to basketball Young has played four years of volleyball, two years of track and field and one year of softball. She has been an All-County selection at least once in all three sports and finished fifth in the shot put at the 2018 state meet, followed by a third-place finish last year.
